There are reports that the bingo industry will see the amount of tax it pays reduced from 20 per cent to 15 per cent in a bid to woo the game’s legions of female fans. Carlisle MP John Stevenson and Workington MP Sir Tony Cunningham have both been pushing for that.
The Sun newspaper reckons it will be halved to 10 per cent. -
Mike Mullaney, area director for Lloyds Bank Commercial Banking in Cumbria, believes that as the economy improves, businesses are feeling more optimistic about their future growth prospects.
"We would like to see this budget deliver measures that will help local firms capitalise upon this renewed sense of optimism," he added.
Local companies need further encouragement to invest in plant and machinery to support future growth. An extension or an increase in the £250,000 annual investment allowance, which is due to end in January, would provide businesses with a welcome boost and give them the confidence to make capex investments, said Mr Mullaney.
“If regional businesses are to play their full part in the economic recovery there needs to be an increase in the amount the Government invests in physical infrastructure projects such as roads, railways and digital connectivity.
"An uplift in spending in these areas will allow businesses in Cumbria and other UK regions to trade more effectively and provide a boost to their long term growth prospects.”
