Richard Rhodes has been a busy man today. He's announced the launch of the Commissioner’s Innovation Fund. The fund is specifically targeted at providing grants to support innovative projects to find new ways of working with at risk groups to cut offending and re-offending. The funding pot will be £100,000 a year over the next four years.

Police are continuing to search for a missing boy who was last seen in Maryport on Sunday. 17-year-old Callum Chapman, from Grimsby, was visiting family in Cumbria when he disappeared. He is described as 5ft 6” tall and was last seen wearing a blue Nike sweater, grey adidas jogging bottoms and Nike trainers. Anyone with information should contact police on 101.

Residents in Eden and Allerdale will be able to go green for less from February next year. Households will be able to buy a food waste digesters at a 75% discount of between £15 and £20, thanks to an initiative by Cumbria County Council. The £600,000 project will reduce the need to collect and treat up to 1,300 tonnes of waste per year, and will reduce carbon emissions by approximately 4,600 tonnes per year. Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner Richard Rhodes has agreed to sign up to the Cumbria Compact initiative. The compact is an agreement between public, voluntary and community groups in Cumbria. It outlines a way of working to improve their relationship for mutual advantage. Mr Rhodes said: "The Cumbria Compact will help me to find out more about the many voluntary sector organisations working in the field of crime reduction in Cumbria, and will be a vital resource for commissioning the voluntary sector.”

Penrith and the Border MP Rory Stewart has welcomed news that the Department for Transport has approved £2.3 million worth of funding to improve the access points into the Eden Business Park and Gilwilly Industrial Estate. The project will include new feeder lanes and the creation of a new double roundabout on Newton Road, Penrith, to help link the estates and ease congestion. Mr Stewart said: "I'm absolutely delighted about this. I campaigned and met with Ministers to persuade them to invest in the huge potential of the M6 'corridor' at Penrith, highlighting the enormous benefits this will bring to our economy."
