A force spokesman said: "There are no serious injuries in any of the four collisions. However, police want to take this opportunity to ask motorists to drive to the weather conditions and not to the speed limit. With the snow and hail in some parts of the county, roads can become icy and motorists are asked to drive with care."

Collisions include a two vehicle crash at 12.45pm near Burton Services on the M6. The force was also alerted at 12.50pm after a car collided with the central reservation on the M6 at Orton. There was also a crash where a car collided with the central reservation on the M6 at Kendal at about 1pm. Then 10 minutes later there was a two vehicle collision on the A65 at Cowbrow, between the M6 and Kirkby Lonsdale.

Cumbria County Council has been ordered to cut £3m more from its spending. The reductions comes on top of the £31m it was expecting to slash from its budget in the 2015/2016 financial year.
The news came in the Government’s announcement of the local authorities grant settlement. It means that the current number of council jobs at risk – 600 – may increase. -
