Police are appealing for information after an armed robbery in Carlisle. A man threatened the occupants of a house on Ashley Street with a knife stealing a laptop and smartphone. The incident happened on Monday December 23 around 6.45pm. The man is described as white, 5’10” tall, and stocky, he was wearing a black and blue Berghaus jacket, black balaclava and dark tracksuit bottoms.

Cumbrians are being called upon to share their thoughts and stories about what makes the county special. The first of a series of roadshows will be held at The Wave in Maryport next Thursday, where people can share their memories and put suggestions to a new project team, looking to build up the profile of Cumbria and share it among like-minded people.

Carlisle residents are being encouraged by the city council to sign up to their e-billing system. Residents will be able to set up direct debits, sign up to e-billing, apply for council tax discounts and changing personal details - such as a change of address - all online. If you sign up before February 28 you will be entered into an online draw with the chance to win a 16GB iPad.

South Lakes Lib Dem MP Tim Farron is delighted that Cumbria will receive mroe than £8 million for extra school places. “I am always lobbying Ministers and working to make the case for more schools funding for our county," he said. “This money will help ensure that every child can fulfil their potential. Many schools in rural areas are bound to have more school places, but some schools have beyond their limit and are over-subscribed."
