All being well, the line should be operating as normal from Monday. -

UNISON has warned against Environment Agency job cuts. Dave Prentis today said the government was "playing Russian roulette with millions of homes" after it was reported 1,500 jobs were at risk. His comments come as 100 flood warnings are in force across the UK for the weekend. Cumbria has one flood alert

A yellow warning for ice tonight has been issued for Cumbria by the Met Office. Surface temperatures are due to drop to around or just below freezing. Forecaster say due to a lot of standing water from recent flooding, icy stretches are expected to form. The warning is in place from 9pm until 10am tomorrow.

A conference will be held in Cumbria to focus on the increasing threats businesses face from hackers and cyber criminals. The event is being organised by Cumbrian security expert Tony Wilson, of Indelible Data, with the support of Britain’s Energy Coast. It takes place on January 23 from 9.30am-4.30pm at Energus, Lillyhall.

Calls for people to turn up later today to help in a search for missing Penrith chef Thomas McMorrow He hasn't been seen since leaving a staff party at the Inn on the Lake, on the shores of Ullswater., on Sunday. People are meeting at Ullswater’s steamer pier today at 12.30pm.

Still no news on missing man Allan Atkinson who hasn't been seen since 1pm on Tuesday.
He is described as 5ft 10” tall, with short, light brown hair and of medium build with a ruddy complexion. When he was last seen he was wearing blue jeans and a grey jacket with a hood. -

Morning everyone! On the rolling news desk today and it's fairly quiet start. Cumbria police are appealing for information about a late night attack on a woman at a taxi rank in Carlisle. They say she was assaulted by a group of women and men at about 4.15am on December 29 at the train station. The women are believed to be in their early 20s and from the Wigton area.

The Bishop of Carlisle, the Right Reverend James Newcome, is to visit Arthuret Church - also known as St Michaels and All Angels – in Longtown tomorrow to see the restoration work undertaken in its grounds by unpaid workers carrying out community payback as part of their court sentences. He will also meet some of those who did the work.

We've had a report that a flood, from a pipe burst, is causing big problems at Carlisle Youth Zone. The service has been badly affected. We understand that it may well be closed, at least today. We're firming up the details now and will bring you the latest asap.

A quick look at the weather shows we can expect a bit of frost overnight.
Today will be mostly dry at first but clouds will move in and patchy rain will arrive by this afternoon, becoming persistent later. It could get fairly heavy, say the Met men. Once the wet weather departs, temperatures are forecast to drop and it'll become frosty. -
