Cumbria County Council received more than 1,400 surveys and several hundred separate correspondences for its now-closed consultation into how to save millions of pounds from its budget. Full council will consider the feedback before making decisions on February 13.

Problem parking in Penrith is being tackled with the introduction of new traffic restrictions. Cumbria County Council’s Local Committee for Eden today approved the installation of double-yellow lines at three locations - Carleton Road, Ridley Court and the Wetheriggs Rise/Castle Hill Road junction. Requests for the changes have been received from residents, a housing association and county councillor.

Police are investigating the alleged assault of a woman as she walked between Maryport and Broughton Moor at 11.30am on Sunday. The offender, wearing a grey and red Superdry jacket, was believed to have fled the scene on a push bike and was last seen near the Miners Arms pub. Anyone with information should call police on 101.

Heavy rain has washed away the newly planted grass seeds at Threlkeld cricket pitch, near Keswick.
The club has been fundraising to repair the pitch after it was badly damaged during floods in June 2012. It was hoped that the pitch would be ready for the 2014 season. -
